Deputy Rector
to Third Mission and Technology Transfer at The University of Perugia

Scientific Director of three SME:
Molecular Discovery Ltd (UK), Molecu
lar Horizon  (IT), Montelino Therapeutics (USA)

My backgroung is in Organic Chemistry and I completed my scientific training in Oxford in the Laboratory of Molecular Biophysics, where I studied protein modeling and drug design, and in Lausanne at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, where I focused on pharmacokinetic and metabolism drug studies from structure modeling. Working at the University of Perugia, I performed my research activity in  the field of ADME and computer-aided drug design, reaching an over three-decades experience in software production for data mining and drug discovery. In particular, I focused my research on drug informatics, cheminformatics, small-molecule and target informatics, and virtual screening. I have been included in the Top Italian Scientists list.

In 2001 I got the Corvin Hansch Award from the Molecular Modeling Society in USA for my work on QSAR and Molecular Modeling, and in 2005 I received the Research Award from Società Chimica Italiana, Organic Chemistry Division. Afterwards,  in 2009 I was the recipient of the Novartis Research Award, and in 2014 I was awarded with the gold medal Angelo Mangini from Italian Chemical Society. In the chemometrics field, I received the gold medal Herman Wold Award from Swedish Chemical Society. Finally, in 2019 I was the recipient of the Honorary Diplom of International Scientific Partnership Foundation (Russian).

I am currently full professor of Organic Chemistry at Department of Chemistry, Biology, and Biotechnologies of the University of Perugia in Italy. I am the head of DAISY Lab, formerly named Laboratory of Excellence H-ECoTox, together with Prof. Laura Goracci, and I am also Deputy Rector for the Technology Transfer. I am the scientific director of Molecular Discovery (UK), Molecular Horizon (Italy) and of Montelino Therapeutics (USA). I am also the director of the human Cytochrome Consortium Initiative (a consortium of seven pharmaceutical companies collaborating to address metabolism issues in predictive human metabolism) and a member of the technical scientific advisory board of several pharmaceutical companies.
